I have wavy/frizzy hair. It's quite thick and like to my shoulders. I want to get it chemically straightened then cut and layered.
Is this possible?
Like, will the chem.straightening really work on my hair? How long should it last? Is it hard to keep up with?
I'm 13 and I am so sick of my hair.
So please give me some tips and warnings!
Thanks in advance!!
-Ana.

I would recommend seriously considering the pros and cons of relaxing your hair before going through with anything. Although chemical straightening can help straighten the hair and tame frizz, it can also lead to damage and even hair loss. And relaxing your hair is permanent, and requires retouches for new hair growth every few months, which can get expensive. Here are some good resources that discuss chemical straightening:

As an alternative, you could invest in a good flat iron. Flat ironing the hair is only temporary (your hair will revert to its normal texture when you get it wet), but is fairly easy and safe, as long as you use a thermal protectant and trim your hair regularly to avoid split ends.
You could also try using an anti-frizz product (Ouidad Climate Control Gel is one of the best anti-frizz products I've used) and then apply hair gel and scrunch your hair for a curly look.
If you do decide to chemically straighten your hair, make sure you go to a qualified professional who has a lot of experience with chemical straightening. I wouldn't recommend trying to do it yourself, since the chemicals involved are very strong and you're likely to get the best results in a salon.

It is possible, it's called "relaxing" But don't be lazy, take the time to straighten your hair, because all those chemicals will kill it....just use a straightener ok? It looks better too

chemically straightening will work and your hair will stay straight until you get regrowth, then u'll have to do it again, just don't scratch. when ur done be careful to take care of it or it'll fall out and break and all that. If you use a pressing iron it'll do the same damage in more time, but it's better if you can

yes. my mom got her hair chemically straightened and it looked really good. after a few weeks it started to kinda fall out, it was still straight but she had to go over it with a straightener a couple of times to get it perfect, but it was still wayyyy easier. you should go for it! just make sure you deep condition your hair, chemicals cause a lot of damage.

There's a girl who works near by, she is 14, and she has been getting her hair straightened for a couple of years now. It does work, but it won't be light and airy it will still be your hair so layers may or may not work all over, but around your face -yes. Don't get it wet when your out, and you have to keep getting it treated because your hair grown in how it was before. She does hers every month - month and a half. It can be quite an expensive look to keep. That is why she works. But it's cute. I hope this was helpful.

I have chemically straightened my boys hair. It does work. If you have never done any chemical processing before, ur hair will actually be very soft and shiny. However, if you have ever colored, bleached, permed and thereby do not have "virgin" hair, don't do it. It will fall out in handfulls. Try a brand made for Black people's hair that has conditioning additives to it and try to stay away from the ones that you mix the powder to the straightening liquid. Have a friend or your Mom there to help you too. Good Luck!!!!

yes it works. it will last about 1/2 to 1 yr depending on quality of straighten. no it isnt hard but it is a little pricey
Will chemically straightening my hair really work?
Its very damaging. Eventually the perm will fade and you will
have to straighten.
Since you have thick hair I would just recomend
you layer it to make things easier on you
and buy a good conditioner and straighten your hair
yourself then apply chemicals.
