Hair Straightening in Southern California?

I'm interested in having my hair permanently straightened, and I live in Orange County. I'm looking for people who have had good or bad experiences with this procedure, and I'm also looking for recommendations. I know that this is an expensive thing to have done, so I want to make sure that I'm getting my money's worth. So if you've had your hair permanently straightened in the Southern California area, what was your experience?

I got bad news for you. You can pay the money to have it straighten, but it truthfully, it will never be permanent. You can't control what grows out of the hair follicle. You can only control what's already grown. Therefore, if you straighten your hair now, as it grows it will be curly. Now, if your hair has only a "soft" curl you may get lucky enough that the weight of the straighten hair will pull down due to gravity, but usually, the straightened hair just reverts back to it's normal state after a few months. Your right, it is an expensive process. You should determine whether you want to pay that amount for a short time of satisfaction that could also be VERY damaging to your hair.

I'm not in So Cal, but I have naturally curly hair and have considered the process myself. A good friend of mine, who has the same type of hair, just had hers straightened and not only did it take out the curl, but it also removed all the body! So that is something to keep in mind, as hers is now very FLAT - it changed my mind about having it done. Also, remember that it does grow out and depending on how fast your hair grows determinds how often you have to do it.

There are lots of straightening products on the market that will help. I use Redken "Smooth Down" shampoo and conditioner, and then blow dry and flat iron my hair. Because my hair is not oily, I can go 2-3 days without washing it again.

Using products instead of permanently straightening allows me to be straight when I want and kinky when I want:)

The cost here in Northern CA is about $500.

everyone has had a good or bad experience. it is up to you and your stylist. people don't realize how important it is to stick w/ the same person they like. they will get to know your hair, and what it good or bad for it. jumping around only reveals in bad results.
