Hair straightening help~!>?

okay i have really thick and curly hair and i want to straighten it. i've done it before but whenever i do it it seems puffy.

these are my steps(please tell me if they are wrong)!

1. wash my hair with nexus shampoo.

2. condition my hair with frutis conditioner(i wash it completely out).

3. blow dry it with a blowdryer that has a comb on it.(i use the comb while i blowdry it).

4. i flat iron it with the conair flat iron( i put it on 25-heat)

that's what i do now what did i do wrong?

how do i make it silky straight?

is there like a protein pack i could put on my hair?

i have the same problem. i wash my hair with fructis shampoo and conditioner. i will sometimes let it air dry but it is easier to straighten with flat iron if i blow dry first. when i blow dry, i will run a little bit of garnier fructis serum (it's in a little round pump bottle) i then use the sedu ionic ceramic flat iron. you can purchase it online at folica.com. i promise you it is the best!! it's about $118 but it is soooo worth it. divide your hair into sections and spray tresemee heat protective spray and use a wide tooth comb to comb it thru. straighten 2 inch of hair at a time. repeat for the rest of your sections. when your down use a little bit of hairspay (don't use strong hold...use flexible hold) i hope this works for you. best of luck =)

you need to add this product:

before you blowdry. your hair will be so straight, you won't believe it. you shouldn't need to iron AND blowdry...if you do, you need a relaxer, girl.

Hi, I have curly hair too, and I had a hard time straightening it.

I bought a Conair straightener, on the cheap end at $30-40. I think it's worth the money to buy a higher-end one, closer to $100--I saw the results on a friend and it looked great- pin straight and shiny.

As for my technique, if I want it straight the next day, I wash it at night. I always use a leave-in conditioner (curly hair is dry). It's easier if you blow dry, but I don't use a comb or brush, just pull on it to somewhat straighten. After it's dry I put the iron on 15 (of 25) or so.

Since you said yours is thick, just do small sections at a time--pull most of your hair up and do the back, then let sections down and do each. Press firmly with the iron, and usually holding the ends/pulling them tight helps...again, still not using a brush or comb.

In the morning I take about 10 minutes to straighten the slept-on parts, then I should be able to wear it that way for 2 days (baby powder helps if you think your scalp is oily on day 2). I do use a comb at this point, but as little as possible.

Some of my friends say that it gets easier the more you do it--if you constantly straighten it, etc.

First of all you need to choose a line of products that work well for your texture of hair. Do not use different product lines as they are formulated to work effectively when they are used with like products. If you are going to use Nexus, use the entire line (shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner).

If you have ethnic hair or are of African American descent you must use products that add moisture to the hair. Nexus is a great product line. If you are of another descent Aveda have many great products that add moisture and all of the products are from the earth and are very healthy for the hair.

Lastly, please invest in a professional straightener and a thermal protector that protects the hair as you use hot tools. HAI, FHI Heat, CHI are among the best. Look on Ebay to find more competitive prices as these ceramic irons cost between $100-300. Also, don't be fooled by those irons that state they are ceramic. They are ceramic coated and tend to peel as time passes. My most favorite straightener for African American hair is HAI Convertable Straightener. It provides excellent shine without loosing hte moisture in hte hair.

There are also products by CHI that you can buy from a ULTA or CVS drug store. The Thermal protector is a spray to use before straightening and the Silk Infusion protects the hair because it is infused with keratin (a protein that strengthens hair)!

Good Luck!!

Hi, i'm a stylist and National Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems.... first of all STOP using Fructis conditioner, in my experience, it is one of the most drying products on the market, because of the excess protein (which most hair does not need and can cause the hair to become brittle and break) natually curly hair is generally much drier than straight hair and needs extra moisture, i would suggest using a professional product like Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Daily conditioner and once a week a deep conditioner like PM Instant Moisture Intensive Mask. as for straightening your hair.... product and technique are key... make sure to use a product like PM straight works or Super Skinny Serum, or a combination of the two (just experiment to see which works best for you) dry with a paddle brush, taking small sections and getting it completely dry before moving on. then when ironing , follow the same pattern starting at the nape, take small sections about 1 in thick and iron from scalp to ends... repeat working your way to the top of the head. most importantly invest in a good smoothing iron.... some good ones are The Paul Mitchell Smoothing Iron, the GHD styling Iron, Or the Chi. anything other than these tools are going to not only take longer to straighten, but do not get hot enough to seal the cuticle (outside layer of hair) and keep out the humidity which can make your hair revert to its curly state. hope this helps!

Nexxus is a good shampoo the Nexxus Humectress is really good becuase it moisturizes your hair, since you have curly hair it needs more moisture. Other good ones are Biolage, Matrix, Infusion-23, and Redken. But use less shampoo cuz it dries out curly hair and more conditoner. Get a good brand like Sedu, Chi, Paul Mitchell. Go to www.folica.com you can read reviews and info. and find which one works best for you.

Shampoo and condition your hair, make sure to get all the shampoo out or it will make your hair dry. The same thing for the conditoner or will make your hair feeling greasy and dull. While your hair is wet apply a leave in conditoner like Infusion-23,

Then apply a straightening serum and/or a heat protectant. Good ones are Biosilk, Redken. Let your hair air dry it dosen't damage it as much and won't leave your hair as puffy. Sometimes if you don't blow dry your hair correctly it will make your hair poofy. flat iron the hair. Go section-by-section as thoroughly as you can. Don't do huge pieces at a time do small sections it gives better results. Pull it taut, and go firmly but gently. Going through your hair super fast will snag it and lead to split ends, but going through it too slowly will burn it.
